Malloy on May 15th, will require all teachers to use data to monitor all students’ progress in reading so that this information can be used to develop an intervention for each student who is not making adequate progress to help the student read at an appropriate grade level. Read more about the reading plan on page 180 of the bill. Looking for information on specific strategies for helping children learn to read? Kathleen Whitbread, Ph.D. has created a new blog with helpful, objective, research-based information on teaching reading to children with Down syndrome. Read the blog at www.openbooksopendoors.com.
